Canon EOS R50: The rightful successor
Canon maintained top spot in this entry level mirrorless camera segment with its hugely popular models like M50 and M50 Mark II. But after the launch of Sony ZV-E10 in 2021, which was majorly targeted at good quality video content creation for budding creators, Canon started losing it grip on the segment. Responding positively to the situation, Canon quickly came up with R50, an exceptional blend of versatility and performance.
EOS R50: Compact and Portable Design
One of the first thing you will notice about Canon EOS R50 is its compact size. It’s lightweight and easy to carry, making it a perfect companion for creators on the go. Whether you are vlogging on the street, recoding interviews, live streaming or capturing breathtaking landscapes, EOS R50 won’t let you down.
R50 weight (including battery) 375g, slightly less than its predecessor M50 Mark II. Its more compact also, bringing it closer to its immediate competitor Sony ZV-E10. This makes it easier to carry. But, if you have long fingers and bigger palm, then you might face little difficulties, toggling between buttons, during handheld usage.
Stunning Image Quality
Canon EOS R50 is equipped with 24.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor paired with DIGIC-X processor, to deliver high resolution images with fine details and excellent colour reproduction. One of the standout features of EOS R50 is its continuous shooting capability. You can click burst shots up-to 15 frames per second in electronic shutter mode and up-to 12 frames in electronic first curtain mode. This is particularly useful in action photography while capturing that perfect shot of your child hitting her/his first goal in school football tournament.

Creative+:
Canon R50 has got some Ai feature as well just like your smartphone. It clicks multiple images at once and combine them to produce one single photo with improves dynamic range, sharpness, depth and colour gradation.
Along with these advance assistance features, Canon EOS R50 also have standard DSLRS type Mode Dial which will guide you to different setting options for each mode with an example image on the LCD screen or view finder. With so much of pre-set modes and Assistance, EOS R50 can easily be considered one of the best options of Point & Shoot camera out there for amateur photographers today.
Vlogging with 4k video
Canon EOS R50 can shoot 4K videos at 24 frames and 30 frames per second. Despite being an APS-C sensor, it does not crop your 4K video, unlike its predecessors. It manages to achieve such result by down sampling the 6K video into 4K with details and clarity of 6K. It also gives your lot of scope to zoom-in without losing any detail. With Canon R50, you can also shoot 4K slow motion in 60 frames per second and Full HD with 120 frames per second.
EOS R50 also have an Autofocus mode while video recording which is does decent job like other popular cameras in this segment. It has a product focus mode like the one in Sony ZV-E10 which make focus transition very smoothly without any delay. This is a very helpful feature for product demo videos. This camera does not have IBIS (In-Built Image Stabilization) but it does have electronic stabilization with does pretty decent job considering the size and price point of this camera.
New Canon RF lenses
Combination of RF-S Mount lenses and APS-C sensor is relatively new for Canon’s ecosystem. So, you won’t find too many lenses’ options. To start with, you can have two lens kit which includes 18-45mm and 55-210mm IS STM lenses.
Then you can add Canon RF mount lenses in your kit which are design for its full frame bodies but can fit in this RF-S mount sensor of EOS R50 boasting it focal length 1.25 times. For example, if you use a RF 50mm F1.8 STM lens with EOS R50, its actual focal length will be 50 X 1.25 = 62.5mm. This is a big advantage, but RF lenses are expensive. Those with a collection of old EF lenses can use a RF adaptor to use them with RF-S mount of canon R50.
Body and Connectivity
Canon EOS R50 is a user-friendly camera which is compact and light weight especially designed for beginners and amateurs. You get a very comprehensive, yet easy to navigate menu design which can be accessed easily through its 3-inch super responsive Veri-angle touch LCD screen and OLED Electronic Viewfinder (EVF).
It comes with a built-in manual flash and single card slot, compatible with UHS-I type high speed memory card. Card you will have to buy separately. You also get LP-E17, efficient but small battery and a charger adaptor inside the box.
This camera also has multiple connectivity options. You get USB-C type, Mini HDMI, Wi-Fi and Canon Connect App for charging, remote operations and file transfers. Thera is an in-built mic, but you can add external mic as well.
