Indian festive calendar is undoubtedly one of the longest and busiest ones, and so is the brands’ discount and sales marketing calendar here. There is a national or regional festival or sports event every month. Brands and Retailers are now very well aligned with these events and have created their marketing rosters.

The newest edition to this is the ‘Black Friday Sale’. It is not the first international sale event that has hit the Indian market. The Christmas Sale and the Valentine’s Day events have been successfully coined and uncashed by companies like Archies and Ferns-n- Petals

Black Friday Sale is originally an annual sales event from the USA, which has recently become popular in Europe and some Asian countries. Indian consumer market seems to be just warming up for this and accommodating it in its annual sales event calendar.

What is the Black Friday Sale?

The first Friday that follows ‘Thanksgiving’ in the USA is an annual sales day. It also marks the beginning of the yearly holidays and Christmas shopping season. Almost all the stores offer high discounts on all popular categories. In the early to mid-2000s, news of people lining up outside popular stores before midnight and fights breaking out inside the store were all over the internet and dailies.

Why is it called ‘Black Friday’?

There are various theories for calling it ‘Black Friday,’ like the sight of chaos outside the bank in 1929 after the stock market crash or the dealers’ black hands from counting money on this day. One more theory claim that retailers can get out of red numbers in their books on this high-turnover day and write black numbers.

But the first known use of the term ‘Black Friday’ came from the Philadelphia police department due to massive traffic jams and crowded sidewalks they had to face due to the annual sales day on the following Friday of ‘Thanksgiving.’

Black Friday was considered a brick-and-mortar stores event in the pre-pandemic phase. But in some European countries, online stores have been offering discounts since the early 2010s. During this annual sales event in most populous European countries like the UK, Italy, France, Germany, and Switzerland, one can find heavy discounts on articles like hot beverages, fashion accessories, and airline tickets.

This year, Black Friday falls on the 25th of November, a day after ‘Thanksgiving’ in the United States. As the Indian festive season ended early this year, Retailers and E-Commerce sites found a perfect jig to keep customers engaged between Diwali and winter sales. There is less buzz than it was during the Diwali sale. Still, you may find jaw-dropping deals in Electronics, Fashion, Online Educational Courses, and Digital Service Providers for Web HostingDomain Name, and Website Building
